569 (C.M.) J. B. Cook

Jesus, we own Thy sovereign sway,

For Thou art good and just;

Help us Thy precepts to obey,

And in Thy name to trust.

Taught by Thy Spirit and Thy word,

We in Thy truth confide,

Regardless of the frowning world

Which does Thy saints deride.

Wast Thou in Jordan's flood baptized,

Our great and glorious Head?

Oh, may we follow, though despised,

And in Thy footsteps tread.

Buried beneath the yielding wave,

O Jesus, we would be;

And rising from the liquid grave,

We'd live, O Lord, to Thee.

Oh, when the great archangel's voice

Shall wake our sleeping dust,

May we, released from death, rejoice,

And dwell among the just.
